Session 1
Sweden’s energy market is entering a pivotal election year one that will shape the country’s energy priorities for the next decade. With over 300 hours of negative prices, rising grid-access costs, and major policy reforms in motion, the PV and BESS landscape is full of both opportunity and uncertainty. This opening presentation will unpack how shifting political priorities, electrification trends, and market stress points are influencing investment decisions and shaping the outlook for 2026 and beyond.
Sweden is moving to reform its permitting framework to accelerate PV & BESS development. These changes are expected to shorten approval timelines, reduce administrative complexity, and align planning processes with the country’s ambitious climate and electrification goals. This session will explore how developers can leverage the new framework to scale projects more efficiently, while also addressing remaining challenges around grid capacity and local stakeholder engagement.
IPPs in Sweden are navigating a tougher than expected landscape: Ancillary services markets are crowded, electricity demand growth is lagging behind forecasts, and grid connection costs remain high. Yet, opportunities still exist for those who can identify new niches, optimize assets, and leverage innovative business models. This session will explore where the next sources of competitive advantage can be found.

Session 2
As renewable energy penetration accelerates, Sweden’s TSO faces the challenge of balancing grid stability with the need to maximize renewable output. Batteries are emerging as a critical enabler, providing flexibility, reducing curtailment, and ensuring secure system operation. This session will highlight the TSO’s perspective on how storage can complement renewables and unlock greater system efficiency.

This panel explores the financial and operational realities of developing and running a utility-scale BESS project in Sweden. We will unpack the return metrics investors are targeting, the evolving offtake structures shaping revenue certainty, and the strategies being deployed to mitigate merchant and technology risks. Attendees will gain practical insights into how Swedish market dynamics and policy frameworks influence investment decisions and long-term asset performance.
This presentation examines how optimization partners manage risk and maximise returns for battery storage and flexible assets in Sweden’s volatile power market. Experts will unpack the hedging tools available, from bilateral contracts to ancillary service optimisation, and explain how these structures shape investor returns. Attendees will gain clarity on the commercial terms, return expectations, and evolving route-to-market options behind bankable projects.

Session 3
This session explores how different offtake structures - tolling agreements, floor contracts, and hybrid PPAs - can enhance the bankability of utility-scale battery storage projects. Experts will present a cost-benefit analysis of each approach, highlighting how they impact risk allocation, debt financing, and long-term returns. Attendees will gain practical insights into which structures are most effective in securing investment and ensuring stable cash flows in volatile power markets
Grid connection delays and escalating costs are becoming critical hurdles for solar and BESS developers in Sweden. As the number of applications surges and capacity saturates in key areas, grid access risks are increasingly factored into investment decisions and lender due diligence. This session explores the financial, technical, and strategic dimensions of securing timely and cost-effective grid access - and how developers can mitigate risks to keep their projects bankable.
With recent landmark financings setting new benchmarks in Sweden, experts will explore the main terms, gearing levels, and due diligence requirements that IPPs must meet. Attendees will gain insight into how lenders assess merchant risk, offtake structures, and technology warranties to ensure bankability.

Session 4
This session highlights practical, actionable strategies to boost the performance of existing projects, including optimization, cost control, and revenue maximization. Attendees will hear how leading operators are adapting to market volatility, managing degradation, and leveraging digital tools to extract more value from their assets today.
Construction is where plans meet reality. In Sweden, EPCs are navigating challenges from ground instability and weather delays to complex hybrid configurations and tight permitting interfaces. This talk dives into the critical lessons that ensure timely, cost-efficient builds — and how smart design and coordination set the foundation for long-term asset success.
Sweden’s rapid build-out of renewables is reshaping the power system, creating both opportunities and challenges for grid stability. With rising volatility, negative prices, and growing demand for balancing services, the market urgently needs new sources of flexibility. This session explores whether Sweden’s power market can adapt to these pressures and become more resilient through large-scale storage deployments.
