Green Hydrogen: The Missing Link in the RE Transition?

Manuel is a senior professional with 30 years of international experience, in various sectors of activity, most of them in power and energy. Manuel spent eight years in Southern Africa as Managing Director of EFACEC Mozambique and South Africa. He led the local teams in projects across all business units, servicing for energy systems (Cahora Bassa dam revamping, 2 GW) and negotiating substations EPC (total installed capacity over 1000 MVa) and renewables (PV 40 MW). Manuel was part of Siemens T&D between 1991 and 1999. He worked in Portugal, Macau and Germany, first as Sales Manager and later as Site and Commissioning Manager at the first CCGT plant in Portugal (990 MW). Manuel was also director of companies on wood and sheet metal machinery markets. Manuel holds a PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems  (FEUP / MIT Portugal program), MBA from Oporto Business School, Executive MBA from ESADE Barcelona and BSc in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. He is an invited Professor and co-author of various peer reviewed publications.

Miguel Vales is the Commercial Director for Systems at Efacec, leading the commercial efforts and strategy for the Energy Systems, Environment and Transportation business units, including Green Hydrogen. He assumed this role recently after several years as the Strategic Marketing Director of the Group.With a consultancy background and international experience delivering projects in several European Utilities, Miguel also led the Madrid Operations and Business Development teams of the Gas & Power Business Unit of Galp, an Oil & Gas major. Miguel also served as company representative in several organizations such as Sedigas, CNMC, EV100 by the Climate Group and Business Council for Sustainable Development.Miguel holds a Degree in Economics by the University of Porto and an Executive MBA by IESE Business School in Madrid.

Pedro Amaral Jorge joined APREN in December 2018. He previously took a role at AfDB to work as private sector expert in developing and structuring Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Sanitation Projects in Africa, with focus in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.Pedro has a track record on EPC and Utility business development, financing, designing, building and management with more than 15 years of international work experience, having worked in Europe, South America, Africa and the Middle East.Pedro has 20 years’ experience in Top Management positions such as General Manager, Executive Board Member, Executive Director and CEO. Pedro led the development, execution, implementation and management of water and Sanitation, sustainable infrastructure, natural gas distribution infrastructure and renewable energy projects, all in different contract structures, in several countries and continents. Pedro worked for AfDB, Mitsubishi/METITO, Mota-Engil, SACYR/SOMAGUE, IDOM, among others.Pedro has an Executive MBA in Finance and Operations from IESE/AESE as well as a MsC in Mechanical Engineering from IST - Instituto Superior Técnico.
