The Colombian Association of Power Generators (Acolgen) hosted its 12th Annual Power Sector Summit in Bogota on September 3. The event focused on the country’s electricity sector transition. Top government brass, important international entities, and power producers discussed the challenges and opportunities confronting Colombia’s evolving power sector.
Acolgen is Colombia’s principal association of power producers. It is composed of fifteen of the largest electricity generators including EPM, Isagen and AES Colombia. Combined, Acolgen members represent around 70% of the country’s generation.
This high-level summit provided an opportunity to understand how traditional players are viewing and adapting to the country’s changing power sector landscape and how their strategies are likely to evolve in light of the entrance of renewables that the Ministry of Mines and Energy is pushing. Given their size and influence, the moves of Alcogen members will greatly shape the renewables sector landscape
