Colombia Country Report

In recent months, the world has closely been following the general elections in Colombia. The business-friendly election results have opened the door for more favorable renewable energy policies. The new government, acting within the regulatory framework for renewable energies established by the previous administration, has announced the first renewable energy auction for January 2019, in which 1,500 megawatts (MW) worth of new renewable energy projects are expected to be awarded.

This long-awaited auction adds to the successes achieved in the distributed generation (DG) segment and area of bilateral power purchase agreements (PPAs).

This report is part of the preparation for the next edition of the El Futuro Solar Colombia conference, which will be organized by Solarplaza coming November 20-21, 2018 in Bogotá. The event will bring together local market leaders and public stakeholders to discuss the challenges & opportunities in the immediate future for Colombia’s solar energy market.

The conference will be preceded by an exclusive Regulatory and Finance workshop on November 19. This one-day workshop will offer a select number of participants a springboard for business and project development, through meetings with decision makers, legislators and financiers in an exclusive setting. During the in-depth sessions, the various facets of project development will be analyzed. These topics include the auction framework, grid interconnection and capacity, equity investment, and the other available project financing options.
