For this reason, as part of our preparation for the conference Solar Asset Management Asia (June 24-25, Tokyo), we have created an overview of the 23 largest PV projects in Japan that have plans to be realized in a few years.

Most of these plants are to be completed in 2015 or 2016
Of the plants in this overview on which we have information, 33% will be completed in 2015, 38% is to be completed next year, and the remaining 28% is planned to be completed by 2017 or later (including the Setouchi Mega-Solar Project in the Okayama prefecture).
Most of the largest approved plants are in the Tohoku area
While in the overview of largest operating plants 18 out of the 25 plants are located in the Kyushu area, of the largest plants approved 10 will be constructed in the Tohoku area.
Of the companies working on development of these projects, a few names are recurrent: ORIX, SB energy, Mitsui & Co ltd, Virginia Solar Group, GE Energy Financial Services.
Japanese company Toyo Engineering is planning to provide EPC services for at least three plants in this overview (based on the information we have). Interestingly, Toyo Engineering has not been providing EPC services for any of the largest plants in Japan already in operation until now. This could indicate a strong entry in the PV space, or an increased focus on large scale PV plants.
Just as in our overview of operational plants, TMEIC is playing an important role. Based on the information we have been able to obtain, the company is involved as an inverter provider for at least 6 of the plants in this overview.
