200+ Global Floating Solar Plants

05 June 2019 by Mina Mesbahi

Floating solar initially started with the goal of making better use of underutilized or contaminated bodies of water such as dams and reservoirs. However, new horizons are on sight for floating solar as new technologies enable the placement of solar panels on coastal saltwater, opening a sea of opportunities for RE.

Asia has been the primary harbour for floating solar projects with but these projects continue to reach new territories. The remaining of the world is waking up to the idea of floatovoltaics. To take better stock of the capacities and locations of these projects, and prepare for Floating Solar Conference 2019, we have compiled a comprehensive overview of 200+ floating solar PV plants in the world, listing: capacity, location, operational year and floating system provider.
