Poland’s renewable energy transition has recently received a massive boost thanks to a wave of new solar installations. In only 12 months, the country added an astonishing 1,378 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity, making it one of the fastest growing solar power markets in Europe. According to the Polish grid operator PSE SA, the country’s solar power capacity grew from 882.6 MW in August 2019, to 2,261 MW in August 2020. Yet, due to the market’s complicated regulatory framework, developers are still facing challenges navigating through the country’s regulatory framework. This paper aims to shed light on those complexities and provide the most important legal considerations for developing solar power plants in Poland.
