Hermann Scheer speaks at Dutch solar energy conference
Mr Hermann Scheer, the "European Al Gore", will be speaking at the Dutch solar energy conference "The Solar Future" on 22 April in Rotterdam.
Driving force behind successful German sustainable energy policy speaks at Dutch solar energy conference
The title of the first major Dutch solar energy conference of this century is: "The Solar Future - Investing in Solar Energy". The aim of the conference is to offer insight into international developments and to inspire.
Not only is he a member of the German parliament and author of the books "A Solar Manifesto", "The Solar Economy" and "Energy Autonomy", Hermann Scheer is also president of EUROSOLAR (The European Association for Renewable Energy) and chairman of the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE). Scheer is regarded as a policy innovator and a worldwide sustainable energy leader. In the Netherlands his profile increased when he appeared in a solar energy-themed episode of "Tegenlicht", a program by VPRO Television.
Hermann Scheer is a champion of decentralized generation of solar energy. Anywhere people live and work, electricity and heat can be generated from – eventually – almost free sustainable sources such as wind, sun, waves and the earth. In Germany, over 10 years, Mr Scheer has kicked off an unprecedented energy revolution which has since led to an 18% share of sustainably generated electricity in the electricity mix. Currently the Netherlands is at 6 to 7%. This strong growth is based on the feed-in tariff he developed, whereby self-generated energy is delivered back into the grid for a fixed, guaranteed tariff.
The themes of the solar energy conference at the Schiecentrale in Rotterdam are: technology, industry, market, investment and vision. Dutch solar energy companies operating worldwide will reveal how the international industry and market are developing. They will also talk about new technologies and investment and other opportunities for now and the near future. As well as Hermann Scheer, Prof. Wim Sinke will also be speaking. You could call him the founding father of solar energy research and policy in the Netherlands. Prof. Sinke will bust the "myths" about the impracticabilities of solar energy in the Netherlands.
