SolarAccess is installing 13,000 solar panels at Alro in Dilsem-Stokkem and Genk. This will give Alro one of the largest industrial solar power systems in Limburg. By the end of the year, SolarAccess will install over 20,000 m² of panels, which will provide 2.5 million kWh of green energy every year. This corresponds with the energy consumption of 700 families. The solar panel park will become the largest roof installation in Limburg and one of the ten largest installations in Belgium. It will provide 27% of Alro’s annual energy consumption. With the installation of the solar panels, Alro is reducing its CO2 emissions by 36,000 tonnes per year. "With this solar energy project, we are reducing our ecological footprint. Working in an environmentally-friendly way has always been very important for us," says Carl Bruynseels, technical director of the Alro Group. Roof rental The solar power installation, a project worth millions, is being financed by SolarAccess who will rent the roofs from Alro. For 20 years, Alro will receive rent for its roofs and buy the economical green power from SolarAccess. When there is too much green energy, this will be sold by SolarAccess on the electricity grid. "Alro will receive extra income and reduce its energy costs," says Tom Pollyn from SolarAccess. "This way of working is profitable for every Belgian enterprise with a roof size of at least 10,000 m²."
