• PV market is still immature and uneconomical. It is highly dependent on local government’s subsidies. The subsidies may be required for at least next 5-10 years.
• Solar companies have been performing badly since 3Q08. ASPs have collapsed increasing margin pressuresand industry shakeout is awaited. Who are your customers?
• Credit Crisis followed by global recession pulled down the demand for PV pulling-in the period of over supply exacerbating an existing situation. Oversupply throughout the supply chain is expected to last some years.
• Capacity is overbuilt on the assumption that PV demand elasticity is infinite with “backstop markets”. Backstop market ideology never passed the test of common sense and is now debunked.Flex your supply chain, align with winners and takeout cost.
• Companies must get back to basics and prepare for a shakeout.
