Dr Zhengrong Shi (Chinese: 施正荣; pinyin: Shī Zhèngróng, born 1963[2]) is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Suntech Power.
Received a Master's in laser physics at a Shanghai university, then went to Australia to get his Ph.D. in electrical engineering. It was there he met one of the leading proponents of solar research and became interested in the business. He returned to China in 2001 as an Australian citizen and founded Suntech Power to make photovoltaic cells for use in solar panels. In 2005 listed his $225 million (sales) company on the NYSE. The company's market cap soared to $5.5 billion.
