Global Demand Conference VI | 12 June 2012 | Munich, Germany

Summary

For the sixth time, Solarplaza organized its Global Demand Conference. More so than ever before, in 2012 the question for the solar industry was: Where can all the modules go...? Or are module and system prices declining quickly enough to create new demand in the leading and emerging PV markets? PV experts and analysts from all over the world stated the case for their home market. Jörg Mayer (BSW Solar) explained how the German market will develop; Shyam Mehta (GTM Research) focused on the US; Reza Shaybani (BPVA) elaborated on the British market; Thierry Lepercq (Solairedirect) discussed the PV market in France; Izumi Kaizuka (RTS Corporation) shared her knowledge on the Japanese market and Stelios Psomas (HELAPCO) focused on Greece. Solar PV Market Forecast 2011 and 2012

The Solar Future: UK II | 29 June 2011 | London, United Kingdom

Summary

New installations in the UK amounted to 42 MW in 2010. This was ten times more than in 2009, influenced, of course, by the introduction of the Feed-in Tariffs. The unexpected review of the FiTs in March lead to uncertainties, mainly for the larger installations. However, the market segment for small and commercial rooftop installations, of up to 50kW, remains very attractive and is set to double in 2011. These developments made the second Solar Future: UK conference the perfect opportunity to look ahead together and prepare for the years to come.

Presentations on a number of topics, given by industry experts from leading organisations and associations, helped delegates to:

- learn about the future of the FiTs
- understand how solar PV can be a sustainable industry for the UK
- learn where the PV growth-hotspots are
- hear how international developments in manufacturing could reduce costs
- understand more about the legal aspects when transferring roof ownership
- hear how installations work in practice.

Speakers

Rachel Solomon Williams (Head, Feed-in Tariff Review, Office for Renewable Energy Deployment, DECC), Keith Duncan (Senior Manager, Governance & Renewables Compliance Environmental Programmes, Ofgem), Ray Noble (PV Specialist, REA), Ben Hill (Global Head of Sales & Marketing, Trina Solar), Jonathan Scurlock (Chief Adviser for Renewable Energy, National Farmers' Union), Rolf Oldach (Director, Technical Manager, Photon Energy), Meg Hillier (Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change), Hans-Georg Schweikardt (Head of Product Management, Sputnik Engineering), Priscilla Hall (Partner, Clarke Willmott), Juliet Davenport (Founder & CEO, Good Energy), Hadley Barrett (CEO, Oxford Sustainable Group), Tomas Freyman (Energy and Environmental Infrastructure, Ernst & Young LLP), Robert Schramm (Senior Analyst, Macquarie Securities Group)

The Solar Future Conference (DE) | 8 June 2010 | Munich, Germany

Summary

SolarPlaza´s second “Solar Future Conference” offered a platform to hear and meet business leaders in the global solar PV market. The conference focused on vision and strategies related to solar industry supply, market demand, technology, business strategy, cost, and financial trends. It took place in the same city as the world´s largest trade fair for solar technology - the Intersolar Europe.

At this top-level conference, the world’s leading CEOs, gurus, experts and analysts will provided valuable insights in how the PV industry and the PV market will look in 2013. The one-day conference was subdivided in four sessions: the gurus and analysts´ visions, the upstream and downstream players´ visions and a session on the large-scale use of PV.

The speakers explained, for example, how crystalline silicon can compete with thin-film technologies, which business model will survive, when inverter shortages will be overcome and if feed-in tariffs will still be necessary in 2013. In addition, they discussed what the cost per kWh will be for solar electricity and what will be needed to realise the global mass introduction of PV. In the afternoon, there was a panel discussion with the audience.

The Solar Future Conference II (NL) | 22 April 2010 | Utrecht, Netherlands

Summary

On 22 April 2010 some two hundred people gathered in the Mediaplaza (Utrecht, Netherlands) to discuss the chances that are open in the Dutch PV market. These chances have changed drastically: six years ago the Netherlands were still the fourth market in the world, but since then this position is steadily decreasing and the Netherlands have been passed by neighbors like Belgium.
Optimism however dominated the day: local governments stimulate solar initiatives where the national government is reluctant to do so and entrepreneurs believe that now is the time to build a Dutch solar PV industry, if the Netherlands want to play a role in the energy-revolution. Thanks to an excellent line of speakers and great networking opportunities this conference was valued very high by its participants!
